What if I dont pay my credit card? The other answers failed to mention one more thing about what will happen. If you "close" the card or fail to pay the $154 charges, the first time a payment is late, the card company will add the interest based on the interest rate of the card AND they will add the charges for "late payment". Most companies charge between $35 to $40 for "late payments". On the second month you don't pay, they will again add interest and more late charges. On the third month you don't pay, they will add interest, late payment charges and THEN they finally get around to sending the account to a collection agency. By the time that $154 bill gets sent to collections, it will be closer to $300 that you are actually being charged for by the collection agencies that will come after you for that debt. So, even if you do negotiate a cheaper price to get it off your credit record, you still won't pay less than the original debt. Your credit score will drop drastically because of the failure to pay a debt.
Debit card or credit card, which one is safer? credit card. It is much easier to dispute false charges if they steal your credit card as they simply have to sign instead of type in your PIN... Actually, it goes even further than that, because the credit card company cannot hold you liable for any unauthorized charges to a credit card as it is technically a microloan which they would be issuing to someone else in your name should they steal your card. You are no more liable for those charges than if I were to go to my local bank and take out a loan in your name.
I’ve never had a credit card/credit score, why does it label me as a delinquent? 'Delinquent' in finance/credit terms means you don't pay your bills on time - so you ARE delinquent So who else is going to want to basically lend you their money either via a credit card or a loan etc, when you have proven you can't or won't repay it ? Not many I'm afraid. all missed / late payments are reported to the credit agencies and when other credit companies come to check you out - your missed / late payments etc are shown to them. Not having a credit card has nothing to do with the situation and everyone has some sort of 'credit score'. Even someone who has just turned 18, would have a credit score - a non-existent one, but a score none the less
Credit card balance.? It's called a "secured" credit card. Most companies allow you to apply online. You put an amount of money on deposit and that becomes your credit limit. You'll get the card even without established credit because they'll just take the deposit if you don't pay. The person who said you "don't put money on a credit card" doesn't understand. Once you have made the deposit and received your card, you use it just like any other credit card. The rating agencies don't know it's a secured card, so your credit score gets built up just like any credit card. It works as long as you don't charge more than your deposit. For example, you put a $500 deposit on a secure card. The $500 just sits there. If you use the card and make the payments for a few months, your credit score will go up and then you can get a regular credit card. Then you close the secured card and get your $500 back. Works great.
Can credit card debt be partially erased by a company who says they deal in that sort of thing? For a fee usually about $500 they will contact the credit card companies and tell them that you are in credit counseling which is a precursor to bankruptcy and they will make an offer for you to pay the cash amount do on your credit cards without the interest most credit card companies accept this deal in lieu of bankruptcy but at the same time they will freeze your credit you will not be able to use your credit cards until that loan is completely paid down if you can live with that you can also do that yourself for free
How do credit cards work? A bank will extend you a line of credit. This is how much you can charge. When you go to pay for an item, you give the store your credit card. The cost of the item is deducted from your credit. If you don't have enough credit, the charge is refused. At the end of the period (usually the end of the month) you are presented with a bill from the bank for all the charges you have made. You have 3 choices: 1 Pay the entire balance. 2 Pay the minimum amount (or $20, whichever is more.) 3 Pay something in-between. If you do not pay the entire balance, an interest charge will be applied to the remaining amount. This interest charge generally ranges between 15% to 25%. Example. You have a $1000 credit line from The Bank, with an interest rate of 12% annually. You go shopping for clothing, and buy $200 of stuff, which you put on your credit card. You now have $800 remaining on your credit. You don't buy anything else with your credit card this month, so your minimum due is $20. Instead you pay $100. So you get an interest charge of 1% on the remaining $100 balance. Now your credit line is $899, and your balance is $101. Let's say you again charge $200. Your credit line is down $699, your balance is $301. Again you decide to only pay $100. You get another interest charge, this time on the $201 remaining which brings your total balance to $203. This is both the good and bad thing about credit cards. You can spend credit even if you don't have the money to pay it back (at least, not all at once.) HOWEVER, you have to be careful with the interest charges! Even if you stop using a credit card with a balance and only make the minimum payment, you'll end up paying huge amounts of money in interest! The credit card companies now need to disclose this on your bill. SO, if you do use credit cards, be careful! Try not to spend more than you can pay at the end of the month. If you do have to spend more - say, your car needs repairing - and you can't pay it off entirely, at least pay as much as you can. You may still pay some extra in interest but you should make it your priority to pay off that balance as quickly as possible. That means, do not use the credit card (or any other credit card) and stick closely to your budget.

Can credit card companies increase your interest rate on prior purchases with out being late? Yes. There are several reasons a credit card company can do this. Being late is only one of them. Your credit card agreement spells them out in plain English. You may have to dig into the 3 or 4 page document, but the answers are all there. Most credit cards have a web site you can look up your credit card agreement. They vary from bank to bank, but essentially they have the ability to do this. The credit card reform bill that recently became law has made some of these reasons illegal: like you were late paying OTHER bills. But many reasons for raising rates remain.
