We could all learn something from the royal touch | Kevin McKenna

Crossing social classes can be done, even in GlasgowThe tale was buried deep inside the Scottish satellite edition of a London newspaper, but it startled me all the same: “Britons afraid to talk politics with those from another class or race.” It wasn’t the revelation that we were queasy about the subject of politics that jolted me, you understand, but the casual use of the word “class”.The analysis, by the British election survey, was based on interviews with more than 20,000 people across the UK. Among its findings was that eight in 10 people never discussed current affairs with members of “a different social class”. I began to wonder what little red flags lit up their synapses as it dawned that they might be about to discuss politics with a member of hoi polloi. The close escape would be discussed over the alfalfa crepes and organic chickpea salad.

Thieves on mopeds mounted a crowded pavement to steal a phone out of the hand of a cycle paramedic while she was on duty. Katherine McKenna, 32, was attacked in Store Street in London’s West End. She was about to respond to an emergency call to help an elderly man who had fallen down some stairs when the attack happened. She said: “I was really shocked. I could not believe that it happened and I was angry I couldn’t respond to the patient who needed my help.” :: Police fearful of pursuing criminals on mopeds Video:The growing menace of moped crime Ms McKenna was not hurt in the attack. She said: “Sadly this type of attack is common. They are hurting people; they are putting other people in danger on the roads and pavements but they are also a danger to themselves. “I have been called out to, and treated, youths who have had accidents on their mopeds.” Ms McKenna was attacked by three muggers, travelling on two mopeds, at 6.15pm on 25 July. They all wore helmets with black visors covering their faces. Image:Criminals are increasingly using mopeds as getaway vehicles or to carry out robberies There have been more than 16,000 moped related crimes in London in the past 12 months, a threefold increase on the previous year. Many of the victims are targeted because they are holding a mobile phone. Ms McKenna returned to work the day after the attack. She said: “If I didn’t go back to work, they would win. “I want to keep doing my job which is caring for and treating people in London. I don’t feel unsafe on my bike in London. Most of the time people are so friendly and appreciative of the job we do.” Paul Cook, operations general manager at the London Ambulance Service, said: “It is appalling for a paramedic to be targeted while on duty and we will work with the police to identify and prosecute those who did this.” Source link London paramedic attacked by moped gang in West End was originally published on News London
How was the Night King able to see and touch Bran Stark?
In "The Door" (Game of Thrones, S06E05), we see that Bran Stark has a vision where he sees the army of dead. The army doesn't see him, they are just still, but once he approaches the Night King, he observes the Night King looking at him. As he turns back, the army is also facing him, the Night King is standing behind him and later the king also touches his forearm. One thing I don't understand is: it was Bran's vision, so how could the Night King see him? Is there any reference to such a power from the Night King in the book or series?

IN many Catholic households in the West of Scotland, Socialism and faith were the twin guarantors of a family’s security at a time when money was unreliable.

"You have a touch," declared Mrs. Van Reypen, as she surveyed herself by the aid of a hand-mirror. "You're positively Frenchy in your touch. Where did you learn it? Have you ever been a lady's-maid?"
