Face-changing apps are all the rage. What if Barack Obama had had one...The makers of FaceApp found themselves embroiled last week in what I’m obliged – by the confines of publishing nicety – to refer to as a “faecal cyclone”. The app enables users to doctor photos of themselves so that they can see what they would look like if they were older or of a different gender. It has been a huge success and sparked what has been described as a “viral face mashing trend”, a sentence that, even as I type it, makes me want to throw my computer in the bin after vomiting all over it.On Wednesday, users of the app found it had been updated to include new filters that allowed users to change their race to “Asian”, “Caucasian”, “Indian” or “black”. The reaction was swift, with users describing the filters as racist. They didn’t even have the decency to change the name to “Race App”. Come on guys, I can’t do all your work for you. Everyone knows people don’t mind racism if it’s delivered with wordplay.

I know it’s not popular to discuss your doubts or questions you have with faith or the Bible of on who God is. But, I don’t want to blindly accept things that I don’t truly believe. I think it’s healthier to recognize whether or not you truly believe what you say you do and trying to understand things for yourself. With that said, there’s something I don’t quite understand. When Christians say “God is holy,” often times that is justified reason for all the holy killings in the Old Testament. We are also told that God does not change and is perfect, just, and love. In our sin, we are the very enemies of God and only through Jesus are we able to be seen as clean. The confusion I have is that how can God ask us to be holy like Him if everyone in sin is completely opposed to Him? Shouldn’t becoming more like God be becoming less love to those who are in sin and not saved? Jesus seems like a contradiction. God did not become flesh to relate to us, but so that we may see we can relate to Him. God didn’t change when he revealed Himself to us, but yet in the New Testament, we never see Jesus as violent and vengeful against those who sin. Instead, he invites them in and to be cleansed. What confuses me is I am unsure how it’s possible to reconcile these very depictions of God found in the Bible. I understand the importance of Jesus’s death and resurrection, however why is Jesus’s life so different than some of the previous depictions of God? You might say that it was because it was a special time and he came to serve, but if He is truly fully 100% God, how does being human allow Him to be in the presence of sin. Did God truly change when He became man?I think many would say it’s because of the Trinity and the distinctness of the person of Christ. I can’t quite understand this, because I’d think that the reaction to sin is far too drastic and different.

It is unclear how many British people consider themselves English. In the 2001 UK census, respondents were invited to state their ethnicity, but while there were tick boxes for 'Irish' and for 'Scottish', there were none for 'English', or 'Welsh', who were subsumed into the general heading 'White British'. Following complaints about this, the 2011 census was changed to "allow respondents to record their English, Welsh, Scottish, Northern Irish, Irish or other identity." Another complication in defining the English is a common tendency for the words "English" and "British" to be used interchangeably, especially overseas. In his study of English identity, Krishan Kumar describes a common slip of the tongue in which people say "English, I mean British". He notes that this slip is normally made only by the English themselves and by foreigners: "Non-English members of the United Kingdom rarely say 'British' when they mean 'English'". Kumar suggests that although this blurring is a sign of England's dominant position with the UK, it is also "problematic for the English [...] when it comes to conceiving of their national identity. It tells of the difficulty that most English people have of distinguishing themselves, in a collective way, from the other inhabitants of the British Isles".

But Dalim Kumar and his young wife lived in happiness forever after, and when the old Rajah died Dalim Kumar became Rajah in his stead, and his own son ruled after him as Surai Bai and he had desired.
Dalim Kumar was very much surprised. "I do not know what you mean," said he. "My life lies within me, in my head and my body and my limbs, as it is with every one."
