Visiting Scotland :)? The only place i can really remark about is Glasgow as that's where i live. Glasgow city centre is a busy but friendly place. I'd imagine that would account for most city centres around Scotland. Try to ask people wherever you are at the time as i'm sure they'd keep you in the right track. There are thieves everywhere in the world i'm afraid. Have a great time here. x
University of the West of Scotland VS Edinburgh Napier University? Nightlife: Glasgow has alot better pubs and clubs than Edinburgh and they are, having asked alot of people much better than in Edinburgh. Shopping: Glasgow has more and better shopping centres than in Edinburgh in my own opinion. I live on the outskirts of Glasgow and I have relatives in in Edinburgh who agree with me. Safer place: There are alot of places in both Glasgow and Edinburgh where you wouldn't want to live, that aren't safe but both City Centres are pretty safe I'd say. Edinburgh is not as lively as Glasgow but it's a nicer City aesthetically. University: Edinburgh Napier University is better than University of the West of Scotland (UWS).
Ever been to Glasgow? Whats it like? I have been to Glasgow numerous times. I go there every year for the "Celtic Connections" festival (a yearly music week-long festival that draws musical and performing artists from all over the world!). I always have a great time in Glasgow. It is easy to get your bearings, easy to get around, and the people are very friendly. Sure, Glasgow is not as glamourous as say, London, Paris, or Rome, but it has its merits in its own right. Glasgow is just like any other European city you would visit. The public transportation system is great - allows you to go everywhere and anywhere affordably and expediently. The people are friendly, down-to-earth, and hospitable. The city is as clean as any other city. But what really endears me to Glasgow is the 'hometown' feeling you get despite it being a city. People there are casual, laid back, and do not put on 'airs' as some do in other cities.
Glasgow the best city in the UK people wise? Yes Glasgow is a fantastic city and on the whole people are really friendly and helpful to strangers Like all places there are some issues , but overall it is certainly the friendliest city I have experienced . I worked all over the Uk over a number of years and certainly the South East us probably the least friendly to strangers . Nest to Glasgow I would probably go for |Liverpool
Best part of Scotland? Someone said that Glasgow is only good for shopping which I can tell you is totally false. Yes, it is the best place to shop in Scotland, but that's not all. Glasgow has some great historic buildings, parks and museums. There are lots of nice Bars and Restaurants across the city. It is second to none for nightlife with many night clubs. If you prefer musicals, rock clubs or dance clubs...Glasgow has it all. Glasgow has one of the tallest cinemas in the world, pool bars, gyms, sports centers, rock climbing centers...you name it - Glasgow has it. Also Glasgow is a very friendly city. People who don't live in Glasgow will tell you it's not but I can tell you from having lived here for 20 years that it is very friendly. Edinburgh is also a great place but don't be fooled by the person who said it was the best by far. It's not. Glasgow and Edinburgh are less than 1 hour journey from each other on the train so it wouldn't be a bad idea for your parents to visit both cities.
Glasgow the best city in the UK people wise? I'll put my oar in for Glasgow being the friendliest City in the UK, particularly given its size as the largest City in Scotland. You normally expect to come across folks less friendly in a larger City, as they're more concerned with their own lives, but in Glasgow, the proportion of people you'll find willing to speak to you, assist you or at the very least acknowledge your existence is very large indeed. I agree with the suggestion that every City has its problems, and of course Glasgow isn't like Hobbiton, but by and large you should find that if you come here for a while, you'll enjoy your stay and be made to feel very welcome. Arrabest, Scott
